HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL, DATE: March 16, 2004 ITEM NO: 15 SUBJECT: RIVERSIDE REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BACKGROUND: At the February 24, 2004 meeting, in a joint item with the Redevelopment Agency, the City Council discussed the position of Executive Director of the Redevelopment Agency (Agency). The City Council requested that the chairs of the City Council Development, Governmental Affairs, and Utility Services/Land Use/Energy Development Standing Committees, City Manager and Deputy city Manager meet and report back to the full City council in two weeks on the Agency Executive Director position. The Committee has met and conceptually approved a new position that would report one-half to the Agency Board and one-half to the City Manager. However, they have not arrived at a final agreement on the position classification and the precise impact this would have on the Development Department organization. The Committee wants to continue discussions on these matters. FISCAL IMPACT: The cost for additional position, depending on the classification RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approves the position of Redevelopment Agency Director, % time under the Agency % under the City Manager, and to continue the discussio,~ns to work out the ~gan~al structures on the City Manager side.
