"People Serving
People"

CITY OF RIVERSIDE

CITY COUNCIL MEMORANDUM

tkiverside

Ali-America City

HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL

DATE: March 9, 2004

ITEM NO: 15

SUBJECT: "CELEBRATING RIVERSIDE" FOR THE MONTH OF MARCH

BACKGROUND:

Mrs. Zaharoula Alexiou is the successful business owner and founder of "George's Drive-in"
located in the Arlington business community. Zaharoula's late husband, Mr. George Alexiou passed
away in 1993. The family business has endured the test of time as it has witnessed business
development come and go over the years in the City of Riverside. I am proud to announce that the
Alexiou family celebrates its 30-year anniversary this year.

Zaharoula was born in Greece and has been a resident of Riverside since 1968. Zaharoula shared
the desire to own and operate a family business as she worked closely with her late husband since
the beginning of their first business in 1970, 'The Cactus." The loss of her business par[net has
enabled her to develop a toughness for the restaurant business. She continues to strive for
success and has managed to build a stronger business venture in which she can pass on to her two
sons, Anastasios and Dimitrios, who as of today work side by side along with their mother each and
every day.

Members of Zaharoula's family can best describe their mother as a quiet individual never seeking
the attention of others. On the other hand, her actions and genuine interest in the business
community as well as the patrons in which she serves on a daily basis speak louder than words are
able to express. Past and present customers return time and time again for the delectable delights
and old-time favorites available at George's drive-in eatery.

I am honored to recognize "George's Drive-in" and its proprietor. Zaharoula has demonstrated
the qualities of a true entrepreneur for over 30 years and Riverside pride in her business
establishment. Please join me in recognizing Mrs. Zaharoula Alexiou as the "Celebrating Riverside"
recipient for the month of March for excellence as a prosperous member of the Riverside business
community.

Respectfully submitted:

Concurs with:

'N~nc~ E. ,Cart --
CitY Councilwoman - Ward 6

NEH/EA/Ijr
h:\wdfiles\council reports\celebratingriverside ward 6 nh 3-9.04.doc

Ed Adkison
City Councilman - Ward 5

15
