The ward boundaries shall be adjusted as necessary to provide substantially equal numbers of residents in each ward in addition to setting forth the proposed steps, timing, criteria, and public outreach for the City's 2022 redistricting process. RECOMMENDATIONS: That the City Council: 1. Receive Riverside County Executive Office presentation on County's Redistricting Briefing. 2. Review the Redistricting Steps, Criteria, and Timeline for the City's 2022 Redistricting Plan. 3. Determine if the City Council will oversee the redistricting process; defer the process to a Standing Committee such as the Inclusiveness, Community Engagement, and Governmental Processes Committee (ICGC); or establish a redistricting commission, selecting from one of the three types of redistricting commissions set forth in Elections Code sections 23002 and 23003. 4. Approve the proposed redistricting timeline for the City's Redistricting process. 5. Provide further direction as the City Council deems appropriate for the establishment of the City's Redistricting Plan. LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: On November 27, 2012, the City of Riverside adopted an ordinance amending Riverside Municipal Code Chapter 1.12, in its entirety, to adjust the City Council ward boundaries, following the 2010 decennial census data.
