Q
From: Adan Gomez <gomezadan@hotmail.com>
Sent: Wednesday, July 15, 2020, 9:23 PM
To: eedwarda@riversideca.gov
Subject: Social Distancing At Its Finest- Riverside, CA
Coucilwoman Edwards,
Good evening I hope this email finds you well. I've communicated with you and Paloma before via lnstagram. 0
I'm contacting you today to share my concerns in our city regarding social distancing. Although we heard and saw some
of our communities concerns initially like seeing yard signs that read "Community Over COVID" and "We're in this
together. " I now see that for many, it was just lip service and I can also see why Riverside County has one of the highest
infection rates in the state.
I took a bike ride with my daughters this evening (7/15/20) in our neighborhood and was appaulled by what I saw at
Ryan Bonomino/Tesquesquite Park. My daughters and I were few in hundreds of people that were wearing masks. There
were full court basketball games being played with maskless individuals and others were playing other close contact
sports like soccer, boxing, etc. I've attached some pictures for your review.
I know that you understand the importance of this pandemic and the need to social distance and wear a mask, but
unfortunately too many careless residents in this city do not. I went to Claremont yesterday and it was amazing to see
the difference and social responsibility between residents in that city and ours. Everyone had a mask while biking,
walking, etc! It was amazing!
In closing thank you for what you do. I believe however that our leadership will have to take more drastic measures to
ensure our safety as it is obvious that the majority of our residents don't care. Please close Mt. Rubidioux again until our
infection rates decrease. Mt. Rubidioux also brings individuals from surrounding communities and cities which also
complicates things and is concerning. Our residents don't deserve to have this recreation site available to them if they
aren't going to be socially responsible and at the very least where a mask. Also, I've seen other cities remove the
basketball rings temporarily on their basketball courts. Please consider supporting something like this as well to help
our city control the spread. I understand that decisions are not made unilaterally, but we need to start pushing decisions
like this at the local level. If not our governor will have to step in like before and shut us down. I know I'm speaking to
the choir. Who knows another shutdown might be inevitable in good 01' Red Riverside! It looks like we don't believe in
science around here!
Again thank you for all you do and for your service. Take care and be well.
1
