W A T E R E N E R G Y I L I F E <br />RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />Board Memorandum <br />PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: JULY 12, 2021 <br />SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION OF THE GARFIELD AND OVERLAND WATER MAIN <br />REPLACEMENT PROJECT (PHASE II) — WORK ORDER NO. 2104921 IN THE <br />AMOUNT OF $1,425,000 <br />ISSUE: <br />Consider approval of Work Order No. 2104921 in the total amount of $1,425,000 for all <br />engineering, construction, paving and construction contingency costs for the Garfield and <br />Overland Water Main Replacement Project (Phase 11). <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities approve Work Order No. 2104921 in the total amount of <br />$1,425,000 for all engineering, construction, paving and construction contingency costs for the <br />Garfield and Overland Water Main Replacement Project (Phase 11). <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) budgets annually for the replacement of certain high-priority water <br />pipelines which have been determined to have reached end of life. This determination is made <br />based on parameters such as age, material, and maintenance records. <br />The Garfield and Overland Water Main Replacement Project (Phase 11) is part of RPU's ongoing <br />water main replacement program to replace old and high-priority water mains. The project area <br />consists of existing 6 -inch cast iron water mains that were installed in the 1950's. Based on their <br />leak history, age and size, these water pipelines have been identified as high-priority pipelines for <br />replacement to enhance the reliability of the water system. <br />Phase I of this project was approved by the Riverside Board of Public Utilities on December 14, <br />2020 and was recently completed. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />The project generally entails the construction of approximately 4,000 linear feet of 8 -inch polyvinyl <br />chloride (PVC) pipe, 111 water services, 13 fire hydrants and 7 system connections, along with <br />
