BUDGET ENGAGEMENT COMMISSION MINUTES THURSDAY, MARCH 11,2021 5 P.M. VIRTUAL MEETING Gy of Arts Bz.Innovation TELEPHONE PUBLIC COMMENT PRESENT: Chair Lyell, Vice -Chair Mendez, Commissioners Burns, Pelzer, Arballo, Scarano, Demshki, Kyles, Fine, Gonzalez-Kester, Hart, and Garcia ABSENT: Commissioners St. Pierre and Mounsey STAFF PRESENT: Diana Alegria, Brad Boneville, Ruby Leann Castillo, Elizabeth Martinez, Ryan Marty, Kristie Thomas, Edward Enriquez, Randy McDaniel, Kristi Smith, Adolfo Cruz, Gabriella Garcia, Noemi Lopez, Edward Lara, Moises Lopez, and Angel Guo Chair Lyell convened the meeting at 5:05 p.m. ELECTION OF CHAIR AND VICE -CHAIR Following discussion, motion was made by Commissioner Hart and seconded by Commissioner Scarano to nominate Chair Lyell for another one-year term as Chair. A substitute motion was made by Commissioner Pelzer and seconded by Commissioner Burns to nominate Vice -Chair Mendez for the position of Chair for one-year term. The substitute motion failed due to lack of a majority vote. Subsequently, the original motion carried with Commissioners Arballo, Scarano, Lyell, Kyles, Fine, Gonzalez-Kester, Hart, and Garcia voting aye and Commissioners Burns, Pelzer, Demshki, and Mendez voting no. Following further discussion, motion was made by Commissioner Fine and seconded by Commissioner Scarano to nominate Vice -Chair Mendez for another one-year term as Vice -Chair. The motion carried unanimously. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE AUDIENCE Malissa McKeith spoke regarding Parada law suit and suggested a joint meeting between Budget Engagement Commission and Charter Review Committee. CONSENT CALENDAR It was moved by Commissioner Fine and seconded my Vice -Chair Mendez to approve the Consent Calendar as presented below affirming the action presented to the item. The motion carried unanimously. MINUTES The minutes of the meeting of February 11, 2021, were approved as presented.
