It is not just plastic cups or paper <br />napkins, it comprises these items and other trash NOT in its proper <br />place in the collection and disposal stream. Litter is often carried from <br />its points of origin by water, wind, traffic, and animals until it becomes <br />trapped by fence lines, wall, curbs or other barriers. <br /> <br />Scoring <br />1 = No Litter--virtually no litter can be observed <br />2 = Slightly Littered --small amounts of litter can be observed <br />3 = Littered--visible litter can readily be seen throughout the sub-area <br />4 = Extremely Littered--a continuous amount of litter is the first <br />things noticed in the sub-area <br /> <br />Judging <br />There were three judges, one KRCB staff member, one KRCB <br />Advisory Board member and one community volunteer. Judges scored <br />7 sub areas in each of the 7 wards. The sub areas included <br />commercial, indnstrial, retail and residential areas. <br /> <br />Findings <br /> <br />Ward 1 1.93 <br />Ward 2 2.04 <br />Ward 3 2.14 <br />Ward 4 1.73 <br />Ward 5 2.17 <br />Ward 6 1.99 <br />Ward 7 2.016 <br />Total 14.016 <br />City Average 2.002 <br /> <br />Conclusion <br />Riverside's average score was 2.002--slightly littered. Judges <br />commented that the most common littered item observed was plastic <br />grocery bags and fast food cups and wrappers. Judges also noted that <br />the worst litter offenders were vacant lots especially those with chain <br />link fences. <br /> <br /> <br />
