Please send to the RPU Board Members and upload to ecomment. It was too large to
include on line. Thank you. (I am within the two hour window)
LastOctober, you raised issues concerning the appointment of City representatives on
the Gage canal board. At that meeting, staff strongly pushed back on council members
actually participating in those meetings. During a subsequent special subcommittee
meeting, other objections were raised including the fact that your attendance would
trigger the Brown Act or that the meetings were "boring" and didn't involve issues
important to the general public.
On Friday, both the City and Gage were sued. I haven't read the complaint, and I am not
a party to that lawsuit. However, as a ratepayer and taxpayer, I will be forced to pay for
what could be costly litigation and potential damages.
My understanding is that this controversy partly surrounds the City's ownership and
voting of
Gage shares owned by the City and whether, by voting its shares, the City effectively
controls Gage.
As a resident, I would like to know the following:
1.What is the legal "status" of RPU staff who sit on the Gage board? Are they
shareholders of Gage and hence defended by Gage's insurance or do Riverside residents
have to pay their attorney fees?
