5 <br /> <br /> 6 <br /> <br /> 7 <br /> <br /> 8 <br /> <br /> 9 <br /> <br />10 <br /> <br /> 11 <br /> <br /> 12 <br /> <br />13 <br /> <br />14 <br /> <br />15 <br /> <br />16 <br /> <br />17 <br /> <br />18 <br /> <br />19 <br /> <br />20 <br /> <br />21 <br /> <br />22 <br /> <br />23 <br /> <br />24 <br /> <br />25 <br /> <br />26 <br /> <br />27 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 20599 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, <br />CAL~ORNIA, SUPPORTING A LOCAL RIVERSIDE COMMUNITY <br />COLLEGE DISTRICT BALLOT INITIATIVE TO PROVIDE $350 MILLION <br />IN IMPROVEMENT FUNDS FOR THE DISTRICT. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Riverside Community College District has placed a general obligation bond, <br />Measure C, on the March 2004 ballot; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Riverside Community College has served residents of the City of Riverside for <br />more than 87 years, helping students~young and old fi.om diverse families and neighborhoods-~earn <br />a college degree, prepare for the workforee, and become lifelong learners; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Riverside Community College has been a sound financial steward of public monies <br />during that time, maximizing the use of State funds to construct and improve buildings on the Riverside <br />Campus and to open new campuses in Moreno Valley and Noreo to better serve both residents in the <br />City and adjacent cities in Riverside County; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Riverside Community College faces continued pressures from local population <br />growth and reductions in State funding that challenge its ability to maintain the high quality of <br />education services that Riverside residents have come to expect and to depend upon; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, funding for higher education--particularly community colleges--is not expected <br />to increase given California's serious financial situation; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Measure C would provide a stable source of funding, controlled and administered <br />at the local level; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Measure C funds would be used to construct, renovate, and improve classrooms, <br />laboratories, and student support services buildings, increase parking, and improve lighting and safety <br />on the Riverside Campus, as well as the Moreno Valley and Noreo campuses; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, these projects would enable Riverside Community College to continue to educate <br />students for transfer to four-year colleges and universities or to enter the local workforce as trained, <br />highly qualified professionals in such needed areas as health care, public safety and emergency <br />services, manufacturing and new technologies; and <br /> <br />(909) <br /> <br /> <br />
