W A T E R E N E R G Y L I F E <br />RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />• ' Board Memorandum <br />P U B L I C U T I L I T I E S <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />DATE: APRIL 13, 2020 <br />ITEM NO: 9 <br />SUBJECT: OVERHEAD TO UNDERGROUND CONVERSION AND STREETLIGHT <br />INSTALLATION COMPONENT OF PUBLIC WORKS BID NO. 7696 FOR IOWA <br />AVENUE IMPROVEMENTS WITH H&H GENERAL CONTRACTORS, INC., IN THE <br />AMOUNT OF $933,670; AND WORK ORDER NO. 1818275 FOR A TOTAL CAPITAL <br />EXPENDITURE IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,430,000 <br />ISSUES: <br />Approve the expenditure in the total amount of $933,670 with H&H General Contractors, Inc., of Highland, <br />California, for the overhead to underground conversion of electric facilities and streetlight installation <br />component of the Public Works Bid No. 7696 for Iowa Avenue Improvements Project from Martin Luther <br />King Boulevard to University Avenue; and Work Order No. 1818275 for a total capital expenditure of <br />$1,430,000. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities: <br />1. Approve the expenditure in the total amount of $933,670 with H&H General Contractors, Inc., of <br />Highland, California, for the overhead to underground conversion of electric facilities and streetlight <br />installation component of the Public Works Bid No. 7696 for Iowa Avenue Improvements Project <br />from Martin Luther King Boulevard to University Avenue; and <br />2. Approve Work Order No. 1818275 in the amount of $1,430,000 for the overhead to underground <br />conversion of electric facilities and streetlight installation work associated with the Public Works Bid <br />No. 7696 for the Iowa Avenue Improvements Project from Martin Luther King Boulevard to <br />University Avenue. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On January 14, 2019, the Board of Public Utilities (Board) approved Work Order No. 1709454 for the <br />installation of two new 12kV electrical feeders for the California Air Resources Board (CARB). This scope <br />of work has now been completed and electric distribution facilities are ready to serve the CARB facility, <br />expected to be ready for occupancy February 2021. At the January 14, 2019 meeting, the Board was <br />informed that staff would seek Board approval later for the overhead to underground conversion of electric <br />facilities component of the Iowa Avenue Improvement project. <br />The Public Works Department plans for street and maintenance improvements for arterial streets <br />throughout the City. Iowa Avenue between Martin Luther King Boulevard and University Avenue is <br />currently a two-lane, undivided roadway, separating the agricultural research property for the University of <br />California, Riverside (UCR). The Public Works Department will soon be starting construction work for the <br />
