The project area consists of
existing 8 -inch steel water mains that were installed between 1956 and 1958. Based on their leak history
and age, these water pipelines have been identified as high priority pipelines for replacement to enhance
the reliability of the water system.
This project is in line with RPU's infrastructure road map and Utility 2.0 and directly benefits RPU water
customers within the vicinity of the project in terms of system reliability.
DISCUSSION:
The scope of work for the Jo Jo Way Water Main Replacement Project generally entails the construction
of approximately 1,400 linear feet of 8 -inch polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe, 16 water services, 2 fire hydrants
and 5 system connections, along with all necessary fittings, appurtenances and related incidental work.
The new water facilities will be installed according to RPU's current standards.
The work identified will be constructed by the Water Division's field forces and is not expected to disrupt
service to RPU water customers.
Once the new water mains are installed, RPU will be responsible for standard trench repaving in
accordance with the Public Works Department (PW) standards. PW may perform trench repaving for
pipeline projects constructed by the Water Division's field forces. However, if the backlog of PW projects
