CITY OF RIVERSIDE

CITY COUNCIL MEMORANDUM

HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL

SUBJECT:

DATE: June 18, 1996

ITEM NO.: 16

REQUEST FOR SECOND EXTENSION OF PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY
INSPECTION OF C[1'¥ MINI-VANS - BID NO. 5138

Backeround:

On June 21, 1994, the City Council awarded Bid No. 5138 to Econo Tire and Auto Center of Riverside for providing
preventive maintenance and safety inspections of City vans used to transport the elderly and handicapped. The bid
allows for three extensions in 12 month periods by mutual agreement and we are requesting approval for the second
extension. Econo Tire and Auto Center of Riverside, by letter dated May 22, 1996 has offered to extend the bid with
the same prices, terms, and conditions as the current bid. Review by the Park and Recreation Department confirms
that this vendor is doing an acceptable job.

Fiscal Impact:

Funds are in the proposed 1996-1997 budget in the Sublet Repairs Account 560-752200-424250 for these services.
It is estimated that the preventive maintenance and safety inspection of City mini-vans will cost $50,000.00. Since
the Special Transportation Division is funded by State and Federal grants and other non-City sources, there will be
no impact to the General Fund.

Alternative:

Rebid the requirements and face the likely possibility of increased unit costs for inspections and repairs.

Recommendation

That the City Council:

Authorize the second extension of Bid No. 5138 with Econo Tire and Auto Center of Riverside by purchase order,
subject to approval of the 1996-1997 City budget, for the period July 1, 1996, through June 30, 1997, as being in
the best interest of the City.
