LEGEND OF THE SEAL OF <br />THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE <br /> <br />The SHIELD, emblematic of protection and shelter; <br /> <br />The CROSS, symbolic of religious idealism, culture and peace; <br /> <br />The WINGS, significant of progress and security; <br /> <br />The FASCES, indicative of strength and unity; <br /> <br />The HORN OF PLENTY, typical of fruitfulness and wealth; <br /> <br />The CLUSTER OF ORANGES, characteristic of Riverside as the <br /> heart of the citrus industry and home of the navel orange. <br /> <br />The present official seal for the City of Riverside was adopted <br />April 14, 1936 by Resolution No. 3003 (New Series). <br /> <br />The first seal was adopted on April 21, 1884. <br /> <br />CIT ' IV IDE <br /> I.
