RECOMMENDATIONS: That the Board of Public Utilities: Recognize the following 2019 "Splash Into Cash — Bottled Water Label Art Contest" winners and their teachers: • High School junior Ella Whitehouse from Woodcrest Christian High School; • High School junior Elyssa Smith from Woodcrest Christian High School; • High School junior Klaudia Blaszczyk from Woodcrest Christian High School; • High School senior Madeleine Chaffin from Woodcrest Christian High School; • Woodcrest Christian High School teacher Ms. Rhonda Thomale. 2. Award the winners with their prizes. BACKGROUND: The annual bottled water label art contest is held in conjunction with the "Splash Into Cash" program. The Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) sponsored high school art contest is open to all public and private high school students in the City of Riverside (City). Students design the label for RPU bottled water that is distributed by the City through sponsorships throughout the year. To date, the Utility has expended more than $370,000 in program costs and has given out almost 600,000 bottles of water to City schools. Each contest winner receives $250 cash, copies of their winning label, and two cases of water featuring their label. Winners also receive a certificate, copies of which are attached to this report. Art teachers receive a $50 gift certificate from an art supply store for each winning entry.
