OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK ANNUAL BOARD/COMMISSION VACANCY NOTICE MADDY ACT December 29, 2017 The Maddy Act takes into consideration a vast and largely untapped reservoir of talent which exists among the citizenry that all too frequently is not aware of the opportunities for participation on local regulatory and advisory boards and commissions. For that reason, the Maddy Act was enacted for maximum public awareness of appointments to be made by the Governor, the City Council, or other legislative bodies (Government Code §54970). In accordance with this provision, on or before December 31st of each year, the City Council must cause to be prepared a list of appointments of all ongoing boards, commissions, and committees which are appointed by the City Council. This list shall include all appointive terms which will expire during the next calendar year with the name of the incumbent appointee, the date of appointment, the date the term expires, and the necessary qualifications for the position (Government Code §54972). All applicants must be qualified electors of the City of Riverside and special qualifications may apply to specified boards and commissions. Pursuant to Riverside Charter Section 802, each board and commission shall have at least one member from each Council Ward. Listed below are the Board, Commission, and Committee members whose terms will expire in 2018 and other current vacancies.
