CANDIDATE STATEMENT FOR
CITY COUNCIL MEMBER,
CITY OF RIVERSIDE, WARD 1
ERIN EDWARDS
OCCUPATION: Nonprofit Manager
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
CANDIDATE STATEMENT FOR
CITY COUNCIL MEMBER,
CITY OF RIVERSIDE, WARD 1
AGE: 35 MIKE GARDNER
OCCUPATION: City Council Member
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
I'm a neighborhood leader, nonprofit manager, homeowner, and mom who
listens and builds partnerships to get things done. With over a decade
of experience addressing complex issues such as homelessness, I have
the energy and new ideas to improve and protect Riverside's unique
quality of life.
On City Council, I will:
-Address homelessness: Riverside recently declared a State of Shelter
Crisis. I will focus on local action and regional solutions for the hardest -
to -serve populations.
-Invest in neighborhoods: I will invest in our ward's streets, sidewalks,
and parks and ensure fast emergency response times so everyone feels
secure and connected where they live.
-Put Riverside on the map: I will tap into the brain power of our colleges
and universities, attract good jobs, and retain local talent. I will support
local businesses and grow city revenue.
My record of community leadership includes serving on the Board of the
Riverside Downtown Partnership, where I sit on the Land Use Committee.
I have a master's degree in International Development.
I came to Riverside in 1971 to continue my education at UCR and have
lived here ever since. While at UCR I met and married my wife Joyce. Our
three children all graduated from Riverside public schools.
While in graduate school, I went to work for Southern California Edison
where I held a variety of professional and managerial positions during my
23 -year career. After leaving Edison I worked for three local businesses
before becoming your councilmember in 2007. 1 have worked hard to
represent you well and will serve another term if you elect me.
Riverside will see three new councilmembers elected this year. My
knowledge and experience are critical to Riverside's future as we deal
with the challenges of homelessness and the budget deficit. I will mentor
the new councilmembers.
I will bring better programs, particularly in mental health and drug
addiction, coupled with enforcement to address homelessness. We
cannot cut our way out of the budget crunch; we must earn our way by
promoting smart economic growth and development while maintaining
city services.
Please feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns. I
would appreciate your vote.
I love Riverside. On City. Council, I will work hard every day to be an Mike
effective advocate for residents. I would be honored to earn your vote.
