RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIESDATE:NOVEMBER 13, 2017 <br />ITEM NO: 1 <br />SUBJECT:RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES’2017“SPLASH INTO CASH -BOTTLED WATER <br />LABEL ART CONTEST”WINNERS <br />ISSUE: <br />Recognizethe 2017“Splash Into Cash –Bottled Water Label Art Contest” winners, their families and <br />teachers,and awardingthewinners with their prizes. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities: <br />1.Recognize the following 2017“Splash Into Cash –Bottled Water Label Art Contest” winnersand <br />their teachers: <br />A.High School senior Isabel Ayala from La Sierra High School; <br />B.High School senior Jaelen Chavez from Norte Vista High School; <br />C.2017 High School Graduate Gabriela Sierravigas from La Sierra High School <br />D.High School senior Audrey Alexander from Woodcrest Christian High School; <br />E.La Sierra High School teacher Mr. Bill Miller; <br />F.Norte Vista High School teacher Ms. Carole Coffman; and, <br />G.Woodcrest Christian High School teacher Ms. Rhonda Thomale. <br />2.Award the winners with their prizes. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The annual bottled water label art contest is heldin conjunction with the “Splash IntoCash”program. The <br />Riverside Public Utilities(RPU)sponsored high school art contest is open to all public and private high <br />school students in the City of Riverside(City). Students design the label for RPU bottled water that is <br />distributed by the City through sponsorships throughout the year. To date, the Utility has expended more <br />than $351,000 in program costs and has given out over 555,600bottles of water to Cityschools. This <br />year’sart was also chosen to design the calendar mousepad andannual financial reportcover. <br />Each contest winner receives$250 cash, copies of their winning label, two cases of water featuring their <br />label, and a sample of their workprinted for the mousepad and financial report. Winnersalsoreceive a <br />certificate, copies of which are attached to this report. Art teachers receive a $50 gift certificate from an <br />art supply store. <br />Page 7 <br />
