RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIESDATE: JANUARY 8, 2018 <br />ITEM NO: 5 <br />SUBJECT:STREETLIGHTINSTALLATION FOR THE PUBLIC WORKS WELLS-ARLANZA <br />SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTSPROJECT–APPROVE WORK ORDER NO. 1725687 <br />FOR $460,000 <br />ISSUE: <br />Approve the capital expenditure of $460,000 for Work Order No. 1725687 for the Electric Utility’s share <br />of the City of Riverside Public Works Wells-Arlanza Sidewalk ImprovementsProject. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />That the Board of Public Utilitiesapprove the estimated capital expenditure of $460,000 forWork Order <br />No. 1725687 for the Electric Utility’s share (streetlight installation) ofthe City of Riverside Public Works <br />Wells-Arlanza Sidewalk ImprovementsProject. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Public Works Wells-Arlanza Sidewalk Improvement Project is part of a Federal Grant from the Active <br />Transportation Program and it is administered by Caltrans. Grants from the Active Transportation <br />Program provide funding for eligible infrastructure projects. The Active Transportation Program Cycle I, <br />allocated funds in the amount of $1,464,470 for this project. Additional sources offunding include local <br />matching, along with RPU’s share of the cost for the project. The project will promote active <br />transportation such as walking, biking, and any alternate way of commute besides automobile. It will <br />benefit the area residents and students of the Wells-Arlanza community. Public Work’s scope of work <br />includesremoving existing rolled curband replacing it with City standard curb and gutter, reconstruction <br />of driveway approaches and curb ramps to conform to American with Disabilities Act (ADA) <br />requirements, removal of existing trees and landscaping in order to clear space for the new sidewalk <br />improvements. <br />The scope of work also includes the installation of 23 new concrete streetlight standards, 6,200 trench <br />feet, 6,500 feet of conduit, 24pull-boxes, 7,400 circuit feet secondary cables, and related street lighting <br />equipment. The work also includes the removal of 21secondary poles withmast arm lighting, and the <br />relocation of a service pole. Intermittentelectric service disruptions will be coordinated during <br />construction and advanced outage notifications will be issued to minimize the impact to customers. <br />The project will replace existing aging infrastructure witha new streetlight system, including underground <br />conduits, streetlight wires,and concrete streetlight pole standards. The new streetlight system will <br />improve lighting in the area, increase system operations, reliability and safety. The work will upgrade <br />streetlight facilities from High Pressure Sodium (HPS) to Light Emitting Diode (LED) and complement the <br />city’s overall effort to improve sustainability.The streetlight upgrade is in alignment with the City-wide <br />Streetlight LED Conversion Program. <br />Page 16 <br /> <br />
