W A T F R E N E R G Y L <br />RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />.�W& <br />Board Memorandum <br />P U B L I C U T I L I T I E S <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: AUGUST 13, 2018 <br />ITEM NO: 9 <br />SUBJECT: CALIFORNIA MUNICIPAL UTILITIES ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP DUES <br />FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2018-19 IN THE AMOUNT OF $116,356 <br />ISSUE: <br />Approve payment of annual membership dues for the California Municipal Utilities Association in the <br />amount of $116,356 for fiscal year 2018-19. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities approve the payment of annual membership dues for the California <br />Municipal Utilities Association in the amount of $116,356 for the fiscal year 2018-19. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) has been a member of the California Municipal Utilities Association <br />(CMUA) since March 1965 and receives and pays the invoices for membership dues annually. <br />CMUA represents the common interests of a diverse coalition of California's publicly owned utilities before <br />statewide jurisdictional bodies and provides a forum to develop and discuss statewide policy issues <br />affecting its members. CMUA advocates on behalf of its members by providing a better understanding of <br />issues relevant to the State's publicly owned utilities and disseminating accurate information regarding its <br />members. CMUA's strength is derived from the diversity of its membership allowing CMUA to be a <br />persuasive advocate for the advancement of public policies that mutually benefit its members and the State <br />of California. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />CMUA was initially formed in 1932 and incorporated in 1933 to represent the interests of California's <br />community -owned electric utilities before the California Legislature and provides a forum to develop and <br />discuss statewide policy issues affecting its members. CMUA is governed by a 19 -member Board of <br />Governors representing large and small utilities from throughout the state. CMUA provides critical <br />information regarding state legislative and regulatory action and represents its members' interests on <br />energy and water issues before the California Legislature, the Governor's Office, and the network of <br />regulatory bodies, including the California Energy Commission, the California Air Resources Board, the <br />Department of Water Resources, the California Independent System Operator, and the State Water <br />Resources Control Board. <br />Page 85 <br />
