WATER I ENERGY I LIF E <br />1W <br />IINIZ WI& RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />P U B LIC UTILITIES Board Memorandum <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: SEPTEMBER 24, 2018 <br />ITEM NO: 10 <br />SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION OF THE IOWA AVENUE 12 -INCH WATER MAIN EXTENSION <br />PROJECT — ARB / ARB HEADQUARTERS — 1,950 FEET OF NEW POTABLE WATER <br />PIPELINE — APPROVE WORK ORDER NO. 1905091 IN THE AMOUNT OF $269,000 <br />AND APPROVE WORK ORDER NO. 1726679 IN THE AMOUNT OF $353,000 — TOTAL <br />PROJECT COST OF $622,000 <br />ISSUES: <br />Approve capital expenditures in the amount of $269,000 for Work Order No. 1905091 and $353,000 for <br />Work Order No. 1726679 for a total project cost of $622,000 to construct the Iowa Avenue 12 -inch Water <br />Main Extension Project. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities: <br />Approve capital expenditures of $269,000 for Work Order No. 1905091 and $353,000 for Work <br />Order No. 1726679 for a total project cost of $622,000, which includes all design, construction, <br />paving, contract administration, inspection and construction contingency costs to construct the <br />Iowa Avenue 12 -inch Water Main Extension Project.; and <br />2. Authorize the City Manager, or his designee, to increase or decrease the above -noted work order <br />amounts, in collective amounts not to exceed the total project cost of $622,000. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Public Works Department (PW) is scheduled to undertake a street improvement project along Iowa <br />Avenue between Everton Place and Martin Luther King Boulevard which will entail widening the street to <br />accommodate a Class I Separated Bicycle Track and an additional traffic lane in each direction and will <br />include the installation of new curb, gutter, sidewalk, landscaping, asphalt pavement, and new sewer and <br />storm drain facilities. <br />In advance of and in coordination with the PW project, Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) will install a new <br />12 -inch water distribution pipeline that will provide water service to future developments along this stretch <br />of Iowa Avenue, including the California Air Resources Board (ARB) Southern California headquarters that <br />is actively under construction. In addition, University of California, Riverside's (UCR) Physical Master Plan <br />identifies potential future expansion in this area. <br />The water pipeline work will occur in phases, of which Phase I has already been completed. <br />Page 54 <br />
