GIS is used throughout the
Cityto manage, share, and use spatial data and related information to address a variety of needs, including
data creation, modification, visualization, analysis, and dissemination. During the technology workshop
held on May 22, 2017, staff demonstrated the benefits of GIS and how it aides in the facilitation of smart
city, a digital community, and business ready efforts (figure 1).
Figure 1: Benefits of GIS
a
A 1/ r► A
t
Business ccess ° Security & Communications No 0o, •
Smart
° aOt Securl tet
Ready Infrastructure. dere Water
GIs Enables Community of the Future
dj
o
Mobile
Workforce
Smart
city
i
sRe
07%j 0AO70c00'
3 °o
'Os O
m
x
Outage
Management
Digital
Community
In the early 1990's, the City designed and built a custom GIS called Computer Automated Design Mapping
& Engineering (CADME). The CADME system was built on Environmental Systems Research Institute,
Inc.'s (Esri) infrastructure and framework. CADME is widely used throughout the City and has been
meeting the basic needs of users for the last 20 years. Due to the age of the system and the increased
difficulty to maintain it, the City recognized the need to migrate from CADME to a modern GIS platform
