The proposed access road for the sedimentation basin
will be in conflict with a small portion of an existing 6 -inch cast iron water main owned by Riverside
Public Utilities (RPU). In order to clear the way for their project, PW requested that RPU relocate the
interfering segment of water pipeline by summer of 2017.
In addition to relocating the short segment of water pipe needed for PW's project, the scope of work
was expanded to include the relocation of an additional segment of old 6 -inch cast iron water pipe that
was installed in 1936 to within the roadway area.
DISCUSSION:
The water main relocation work will entail constructing approximately 300 linear feet of 8 -inch ductile
iron pipe, installing one fire hydrant, two system connections and all related appurtenances. The work
will also entail abandonment of the approximately 300 linear feet segment of existing 6 -inch cast iron
water pipeline within Glenwood Drive that was installed in 1936.
The work identified will be constructed by the Water Division's field forces and will not affect water
service to RPU water customers.
Once the new water pipelines are installed, RPU will be responsible for standard trench repaving per
the PW standards. Trench repaving for this project will be completed by the PW streets division. A
budgetary estimate for the paving work has been included in this authorization.
