The report provides an overview of the routine infrastructure
projects and highlights the importance of these capital improvement projects. Discussion of these
projects provided context and familiarity to streamline Board approval of individual project actions
throughout the fiscal year. One of the projects discussed was the construction of the Magnolia Avenue
and Ramona Drive Water Distribution Main Replacement project. This project is in line with Riverside
Public Utilities' (RPU) infrastructure road map and Utility 2.0 and directly benefits RPU water customers
within the vicinity of the project in terms of system reliability and improved fire protection. This project
consists of approximately 1.5 miles of replacement water main, representing about 26% of RPU's goal
for water main replacements during fiscal year 2016/17.
This project is part of RPU's ongoing water main replacement program to replace old and high priority
leaky mains. The project area consists of existing 8 -inch Matheson Steel pipeline and 4 -inch cast iron
pipeline mostly installed between 1916 and 1931. Based on their leak history, age and size, these water
pipelines have been identified as high priorities for replacement to enhance system reliability and
increase fire flow.
