RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Public Utilities approve Work Order Number 1923476 in the amount of $82,534 to extend the fiber optic cable network from Magnolia and Van Buren Avenues cross -connect cabinet to Arlington Park. BACKGROUND: The Parks, Recreations, and Community Services (PRCS) Department requested that Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) provide dark fiber to Arlington Park located at 3860 Van Buren Boulevard. The fiber extension will facilitate the network connection to the City's central server located inside City Hall. DISCUSSION: RPU will extend additional fiber optic cable approximately 0.4 miles from the park to the existing cross- connect cabinet at the corner of Magnolia and Van Buren Avenues. Two (2) strands of fiber optic cable with an estimated distance of 9.28 miles per fiber will be leased between Arlington Park and City Hall. Interface with the City's network will be through RPU's fiber optic patch panel at Arlington Park. Funding for the project is budgeted in the PRCS Department's Capital Project Fund. Work order 1923476 includes engineering, equipment procurement, and construction of the extension of the fiber optic cable network.
