PJ A r F R F N F R c v L I F E <br />RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />W& Board Memorandum <br />P U B L I C U T I L I T I E S <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: MAY 8, 2019 <br />ITEM NO: 2 <br />SUBJECT: WORKSHOP TO DISCUSS STATUS OF RESIDENTIAL ELECTRIC VEHICLES IN CITY <br />OF RIVERSIDE, RESIDENTIAL ELECTRIC RATES OFFERED TO CUSTOMERS TO <br />SUPPORT ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING, AND OPTIONS FOR PROGRAMS TO <br />SUPPORT RESIDENTIAL ELECTRIC VEHICLES <br />ISSUE: <br />Conduct a workshop to discuss the status of residential electric vehicles in the City of Riverside, residential <br />electric rates offered to customers to support electric vehicle charging, and options for programs to support <br />residential electric vehicles. <br />RECOMMENDATIONS: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities: <br />Receive and file the report on the status of residential electric vehicles in the City of Riverside, <br />residential electric rates offered to customers to support electric vehicle charging, and options for <br />programs to support residential electric vehicles; <br />2. Conduct a workshop and, at its conclusion, provide a set of comments and recommendations <br />representing consensus of the Board on preferred programs and rebates to support residential <br />electric vehicles; and <br />3. Direct staff to present to the Board and to the City Council in six months a proposed residential <br />electric vehicle rebate program. <br />LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: <br />California has prioritized transportation electrification to help the State meet its near- and long-term climate <br />change goals for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 40% below 1990 levels by 2030. Over the last <br />several years, Executive Orders B-16-2012, B-32-15 and B-48-18 were issued by then -Governor Jerry <br />Brown establishing the following goals for the deployment of light-duty electric vehicles (EVs) and the <br />deployment of charging infrastructure in the State: <br />• 1.5 million electric vehicles on the road by 2025 <br />• 5 million electric vehicles on the road by 2030 <br />• 250,000 public EV chargers, including 10,000 direct current fast chargers (DCFC), in California by <br />2030. <br />
