Therefore, on February 13, 2019, Redding Electric Utility reached
out for mutual aid assistance, which Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) received through membership in the
California Utilities Emergency Association.
DISCUSSION:
RPU contacted the City of Redding Electric Utility and offered a six -person crew and five (5) vehicles in
response to their mutual aid assistance request. Upon approval by the City Manager and keeping in
compliance with the IBEW Memorandum of Understanding 2016-2021, Electric Field Superintendents
assembled and dispatched a crew to Redding by midday on Thursday, Februaryl4, 2019. The RPU crew
arrived and began work on February 15, 2019 replacing poles, cross arms, transformers, cabling and wires,
in order to restore power to several hundred Redding customers. After working around the clock to assist
Redding, the Electric Field crew completed work on February 21, 2019 and returned to Riverside. The
Fleet Services Division of the General Services Department provided support for the trip by performing
truck inspections, brake adjustments, and logistics for fueling on the road.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no cost associated with this presentation. Reimbursement for all costs will be received from
Redding Electric Utilities in accordance with standard mutual assistance procedures.
Prepared by: George R. Hanson, Utilities Assistant General Manager/Energy Delivery
