RECREATION AND CULTURAL COMMITTEE <br />Thursday, October 27, 1993 <br />10:00 a.m. <br />City Council Board Room <br />NOTES <br />1. RECREATIONAL TRAILS MASTER PLAN <br />Attending: Terri Thompson, John Tavaglione, Laura <br />Pearson, D'een Teer, Dee Bachman, Terry Nielsen <br />Councilmember Pearson provided an overview of her thoughts <br />regarding moving ahead with a master plan for recreational <br />trails. <br />Staff reviewed the trails already in place. <br />ACTION: <br />Councilmember Tavaglione suggested that the City consider <br />property in the Pellissier Ranch area to be used for an <br />equestrian staging area. <br />Formation of a Steering Committee was suggested to continue to <br />reach out to user groups and promote the goal of a trails <br />master plan. <br />Dee Bachman requested that 15 - 20% of the new Ranger's time <br />be devoted to monitoring trails. <br />City is bounded by open areas; we should work to maintain <br />these areas to promote the distinctive features of the City as <br />a "City within a park". <br />Agendize for a future meeting concerns about uses for <br />Fairmount Park. Bob Stewart to be notified. <br />Councilmember Pearson suggested that the City needs to move <br />more aggressively to implement a Trails Plan and identify <br />immediate funding needs. <br />Direct City Manager's office to work with Parks and Recreation <br />Director to develop a 5 -year plan for trail implementation. <br />Coordinate with outside agencies. <br />
