YOUTH BOXING PROGRAM UPDATE
Attending: Terri Thompson, John Tavaglione, Laura
Pearson, Deen Teer, Dee Bachman
Dee Bachman discussed the status of the youth boxing program,
noting that a neutral setting is a priority. Youth will be
trained on how to box. He noted that Huntington Park has a
similar program.
Staff feels that $75,000-$80,000 will be needed to get the
program started. Funding will be pursued. The Police
Department has indicated strong interest in the program.
Also, a joint venture could be established with private
interests. CDBG funds could be utilized to lease a building.
Councilman Tavaglione reported that the old Salvation Army
building on University may be an appropriate facility for the
program.
ACTION:
Approval of concept.
Identify three sites; evaluate appropriateness of each site.
Report to Committee.
