1 ORDINANCE NO. 6360 <br />2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, <br /> RATIFYING, APPROVING, VALIDATING AND CONTINUING THE <br />3 CITY'S EXISTING STREET LIGHT ASSESSMENT DISTRICT <br /> NO. 1. <br />4 <br />5 The City Council of the City of Riverside, California, <br />6 does ordain as follows: <br />7 WHEREAS in 1988, the City's police and fire departments <br />8 budgets consisted of some $41 million or 52% of the City's total <br />9 general fund; and <br />10 WHEREAS in 1988, with great concern for the safety and <br />11 well-being of its citizens, the City Council approved an <br />12 additional 5 million dollars to the budgets of the police and <br />13 fire departments; and <br />14 WHEREAS in order to find funding for the increased police <br />15 and fire services, the City Council considered utilizing an <br />16 assessment district under the Landscaping and Lighting Act of <br />17 1972 to free up general funds which were then paying for <br />18 energizing of street lights; and <br />19 WHEREAS on or about July 8, 1988, a letter to property <br />20 owners in the City was released to inform the public of the <br />21 purpose of the proposed Street Light Assessment District which <br />22 called for the use of assessment funding to pay for energizing of <br />23 street lighting and thereby releasing additional general fund <br />24 revenue to pay for increased police and fire services, a copy of <br />25 said letter is attached hereto as Exhibit "A"; and <br />26 WHEREAS after considering public testimony, in accordance <br />27 with the provisions of the Landscaping and Lighting Act of 1972 <br />Mtorney's Once <br />Street <br />CA 92~2 <br />782~5~ <br /> F:~WPDATA~0RD~97009902.SY <br /> <br /> <br />
