Departmental Presentation — Michael Moore, Fire Chief <br />• Fire Chief Michael Moore presented the Board with a PowerPoint presentation overview of the Fire <br />Department. The presentation included the departments, major accomplishments, internal performance <br />statistics, the department's current and projected employment opportunities, and training opportunities. <br />• Chief Moore informed the Board that the Fire Department has a difficult time recruiting female <br />Firefighters. Board Member Dew asked if the City partners with other agencies in trying to recruit <br />females. Chief Moore responded and indicated that the City does reach out to the community and <br />attends career fairs and expos. <br />• Mr. Moore gave the Board a brief overview of the Fire Explorer Program. Mr. Moore stated that the <br />program is designed for individuals between the ages of 14-21 who are interested in a fire service <br />career. Chief Moore indicated that at least one Fire Explorer is typically hired out of each academy. <br />• Board Member Sonya Dew inquired about the explorer program and asked Chief Moore if there is a <br />follow-up conversation with individuals that do not get selected through the academy. Chief Moore <br />responded and informed the Board that the goal is to support all participants in the academy and help <br />them be successful at the City or elsewhere. <br />• Chief Moore gave the Board an overview of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Chief <br />Moore indicated that this program gives participants a unique perspective of emergency services and <br />introduces many to career fields within the fire service. Mr. Moore indicated that this program also trains <br />residents and City personnel to be able to help and provide support during a disaster or major <br />emergency. <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />
