Mayor's Commission on Aging Tuesday, July 14, 2015 4:30 PM Janet Goeske Senior Center Call to Order & Introductions: 4:35 pm Swearing in and Oath for New Commissioner Marilyn Martin Commissioners in attendance: Sandy Tarmo, Marilyn Martin, Julie Brown, Grosvenor (Bud) Fish, Irene Weir, Madeline Pruett, Bob Reeves and Shari Fleischman Guests in attendance: Jim Martin, Renee Dar -Khan, Ligia Ruiz- Luppino, Grace Abboud, Rich Garner and Shirley Hanagan Introductions: Rich Gardner met with the Mayor's Chief of Staff (Cheryl) regarding the City of Riverside becoming a Purple City. Dementia is rising among our senior population. August 21St at 7:30 pm in Riverside an event to raise funds for people in respite care. Updates and Announcements Irene Weir: Senior Citizen Day update Award nominations ended in May, nominees will be notified in July, two businesses have sent certificates, master /library calendar are in, plaques for awardees are being ordered, this event is under budget Sheri Fleischman - Acknowledged Mr. Gardner and his passion regarding Dementia and the Purple City designation Bob Reeves: Attended the 2015 White House tele- Conference on Aging Sandy Tarmo: Attended the elder abuse symposium in Moreno Valley, great conference, possible future speakers Shari: Acknowledged the symposium and the quality of speakers Sandy Tarmo: discussed the California Senior Guide (resource guide for our seniors) and the need for our city to partner with this publication in the promotion of events /city logo. Asked for a motion to carry this forward for city approval — Bob Reeves (11t) and 2nd by Mr. Fish and all were in favor Sandy — Refreshments are all paid for Senior Day. Also, part of our strategic planning we are going to be meeting at different locations beginning in the Fall: La Sierra Senior Center, Dales, Bobby Bonds, Villegas, City Hall, etc. Additional sites: Victoria Springs at Lincoln /Adams, Wellbrook at California /Jefferson
