1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />4 <br />5 <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 <br />11 <br />12 <br />13 <br />14 <br />15 <br />16 <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 <br />28 <br />Crn A170RNEY5 OFFICE <br />3900 MAIN SfREEr <br />RIVERSIDE, CA 92522 <br />((951) 8265567 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 23042 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, ORDERING, CALLING, PROVIDING <br />FOR AND GIVING NOTICE OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL <br />ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE ON THE <br />8th DAY OF NOVEMBER, 2016, FOR THE PURPOSE OF <br />SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE CITY <br />OF RIVERSIDE, A MEASURE TO INCREASE THE CITY'S <br />TRANSACTION AND USE TAX (SALES TAX) BY ONE -CENT, <br />AND GIVING NOTICE AND ORDERING THAT SAID SPECIAL <br />MUNICIPAL ELECTION IS CONSOLIDATED WITH ALL OTHER <br />ELECTIONS BEING HELD IN THE SAME TERRITORY ON THE <br />SAME DATE. <br />WHEREAS, the City Council desires to provide for an increase to the City's tax rate of <br />one cent, from 8 percent (8 %) to 9 percent (9 %); and <br />WHEREAS, Article XIIIC of the California Constitution requires that any proposed <br />increase in a general tax must be submitted to, and approved by, a majority of those qualified <br />electors voting in an election to be held on the issuing of increasing the tax; and <br />WHEREAS, the County of Riverside will conduct an election November 8, 2016. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Riverside, as <br />follows: <br />Section 1: The City Council, pursuant to its right and authority under California law, <br />approves the following measure to be submitted to the qualified electors of the City of Riverside <br />at a Special Municipal Election to be held on November 8, 2016: <br />CITY OF RIVERSIDE PUBLIC SAFETY AND VITAL CITY SERVICES MEASURE: <br />To prevent cutting police, firefighters, paramedics, 911 emergency response, <br />antigang /drug programs, homelessness reduction and youth after- <br />school /senior /disabled services; to repair local streets /potholes /infrastructure; and <br />to provide other general services, shall a one -cent transaction and use tax (sales <br />tax) be implemented providing $48, 000, 000 annually through 2036 unless extended <br />by the voters, requiring independent audits with no funds to Sacramento, all funds <br />remaining for Riverside? <br />-I - <br />
