CITY OF RIVERSIDE <br /> <br />Minutes of <br />Date of Meeting: <br />Time of Meeting: <br />Place of Meeting: <br /> <br />Regular Meeting of the City Council <br />June 12, 1990 <br />9 A.M. <br />Council Chamber, City Hall <br /> <br /> COUNCI LMEMBERS <br />WARDS \ 1\2\3\4\5\e\7\ <br /> <br />Roll Call: <br /> <br />The Znvocation was given by the Reverend Rick Patterson, Magnolia Avenue Baptist Church. <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag. <br /> <br />MINITEES <br />The Minutes of the Meeting of June 5, 1990, were approve] as submitted. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION <br />Mayor Frizzel called on Wendell Pryor, Personnel Director, who recognized Special Agent <br />Pete Esquivel and Bill Kratsosky, Principal Engineer, upon their completion of the <br />Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce Leadership Program; and Florencio Mendoze, Commu- <br />nity Services Representative, who has Just become a United States citizen. <br /> <br />The Chair recognized the presence in the audience of Lou Estrella representing the <br />Riverside Chamber of Commerce, Wendell Tucker representing the La Sierra Chamber of Com- <br />merce, Tom Estes representing the Hagnolia Center Chamber of Commerce, Andy Myers repre- <br />senting the Hunter Park-Northside Chamber of Commerce and Lance Gilmer representing the <br />University-Canyon Crest Chamber of Commerce. <br /> <br />CANVASS' OF ELECTION RETURNS - SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION <br />This being the time and place fixed for the report of the City Clerk on the canvass of <br />the returns of the Special Municipal Election held on the 5th day of June, 1990, the <br />Mayor called upon the City Clerk to read the results of said canvass of returns of said <br />election and the absentee votes cast at said election, as heretofore authorized by Reso- <br />lution of the City Council. Following presentation of the certification of the results <br />by the City Clerk, the following actions were taken: <br /> <br /> SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION - DECLARING THE RESULTS - RESOLUTION <br /> Resolution No. 17470 of the City Council of the City of Riverside, California, Recit- <br /> ing the Fact of the Special Municipal Election Consolidated With the Statewide Elec- <br /> tion Held on the 5th Day of June, 1990, in the City of Riverside to Elect a Member of <br /> the City Council to Fill the Vacancy in Ward 7 of Said City; and Declaring the Result <br /> Thereof and Such Other Matters as are Provided by Law, was presented; which declared <br /> that, as the result of said election, Laura Pearson and Nancy E. Hart were the twos <br /> candidates receiving the highest n-mber of votes cast for Member of the City Council <br /> of the Seventh Ward, but ineemuch as no one received a majority of the votes cast, aS <br /> Special Municipal Election would be conducted in not less than 45 days nor more than <br /> 70 days from June 5, 1990; and the title of the Resolution having been read, and fur- <br /> ther readin~ waived by the unanimous consent of Councilmembers present, was adopted <br /> and ordered set forth in full in the Minutes. <br /> <br /> ORDERING, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION - RESOLUTION <br /> Inasmuch as a Special Municipal Election is to be called due to the fact chat no can-' <br /> didate received a majority of the votes cast, the City Council selected July 24, <br /> 1990, as the date for a Special Municipal Election with the names of the two candi-, <br /> dates receivin~ the highest number of votes for the office of Member of the City Coun-, <br /> cil from Ward 7 to be placed on the ballot.
