The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag. MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL COUNCILMEMBER THOMPSON' S ABSENCE FROM MEETINGS Following discussion, the City Council excused Councilmember Thompson's absence from the May 4, 11, and 18 City Council meetings, and future meetings until she recovers from surgery. MINUTES The Minutes of the Meetings of May 11, 1999, were approved as presented; with Councilmember Beaty abstaining as he was absent due to illness. PRESENTATIONS Mayor Loveridge presented Certificates of Appreciation to Police Officers John Start and Debora Foy, Public Safety Officers for the month of May 1999, who were honored by the Greater Riverside Chambers of Commerce at Good Morning Riverside. Mayor Loveridge called on Budget Director John Pietig and Finance Director Jerry Rogers who recognized the outstanding efforts of those employees involved with implementation of the Year 2000 Compliant Budget, Financial, and Human Resources Systems. INTRODUCTIONS Mayor Loveridge called on Police Chief Jerry Carroll who introduced the two most recent appointments to the position of Police Lieutenant, Ronald Orrantia and Alejandro Tortes. Police Chief Jerry Carroll announced the upcoming retirement of Deputy Police Chief Gary Barnes on July 20, 1999. CONSENT CALENDAR The following items, presented to the City Council on the Consent Calendar for consideration, were approved by one motion affirming the actions appropriate to each item.
