1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />4 <br />5 <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 <br />11 <br />12 <br />13 <br />14 <br />15 <br />16 <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />22 <br />23 <br />24 <br />25 <br />26 <br />27 <br />28 <br />Crrr ATTORNEY'S OFFICE <br />3900 MAIN STREET <br />RrvERSIDE, CA 92522 <br />(951) 826 -5567 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 22979 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RIVERSIDE, CALIFORNIA, SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED <br />ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE AN AMENDMENT TO <br />SECTION 403 OF THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF RIVERSIDE AT <br />THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF JUNE 7, 2016. <br />WHEREAS, Article XI, Section 3, of the Constitution of the State of California, Elections <br />Code section 9255, and Government Code section 34458 authorize the City Council, on its own <br />motion, to submit to the qualified electors of the City any ballot measure by ordinance or resolution <br />proposing amendments to the City Charter at a regularly scheduled municipal election; and <br />WHEREAS, on January 12, 2016, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 22948, ordering, <br />calling, providing for and giving notice of a General Municipal Election to be held in the City of <br />Riverside on the 7th day of June, 2016, to be conducted in the City of Riverside for the purpose of <br />electing the Mayor of the City of Riverside; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 1404 of the City Charter, the City Council desires to amend <br />Charter Section 403, Compensation, to increase the City Council member salary to eighty percent <br />(80 %) of the Mayor's salary; and <br />WHEREAS, City Council wishes to submit a Charter Amendment to the voters at the June 7, <br />2016, General Municipal Election. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Riverside, <br />California, as follows: <br />Section 1: The City Council, pursuant to its right and authority under California law, hereby <br />orders that the following question be submitted to the qualified electors of the City of Riverside at <br />the General Municipal Election on June 7, 2016, as referenced in Resolution No. 22948: <br />Council Member Salary Measure. Shall Section 403 of the City Charter be <br />amended to increase the City Council member salary to be eighty percent (80 %) of <br />the Mayor's salary? <br />Section 2: That only the qualified electors of the City of Riverside are entitled to vote at <br />said election on this proposal to amend the City Charter and that if a majority of the qualified <br />
