CITY OF RIV~ ~IDE <br /> <br />Minutes of Regular Meeting of the City Council <br />Date of Meeting: May 28, 1996 <br />Time of Meeting: 2 P.M. <br />Place of Meeting: Council Chamber, City Hall <br /> <br />Roll Call: <br /> <br />Mayor Loveridge called the Meeting to order at 3 p.m. <br /> <br />PARKING, INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AU- <br />THORITIES <br />The City Council recessed for the purpose of sitting as the <br />Parking Authority, the Industrial Development Authority and <br />the Economic Development Authority. <br /> <br />There being no business to be conducted, the meetings were <br />adjourned; and the body reconvened as the City Council. <br /> <br />Councilmeters Clifford and Thompson entered at this time. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING BEFORE THE CITY COUNCIL AT 3 P.M. <br /> <br />ZONING CASE ~rR-076-956 - APPEAL - HOME DEPOT MADISON ~ <br />INDIAlqA - RESOLUTION <br />3 P.M.--Hearing was called to consider the appeal of Doug- <br />las R. Shackelton, Senior Vice President, J.F. Davidson Asso- <br />ciates, Inc., on behalf of Home Depot USA, Inc., from the <br />decision of the Board of Administrative Appeals and Zoning Ad- <br />justment in failing to approve their request for the following <br />variances to install six signs including two free-standing and <br />four building signs, generally located at the easterly corner <br />of Madison Street and Indiana Avenue in tentatively approved <br />Zones C-2-S-2 and S-3: (A) to allow two free-standing signs, <br />one of which is 25 feet high and 100 square feet in size where <br />only one six-foot-high, 25-square-foot sign is allowed; (B) to <br />allow three building signs totalling 416 square feet in size <br />where one maximum 150-square-foot building identification sign <br />is allowed (westerly frontage); and (C) to allow one 200- <br />square-foot building identification sign where one maximum <br />150-square-foot building identification sign is allowed (nor- <br />therly frontage). Mr. Shackelton spoke in support of the <br />appeal and answered questions from the City Council. Two per- <br />sons spoke in opposition to the appeal and the requested vari- <br />ances. Written communications were presented and considered. <br />Following discussion, the hearing was officially closed. <br /> <br /> The City Council granted the appeal in part by approving <br /> the following sign variances, subject to the conditions <br /> recommended by the Planning Department: One 25-foot-high, <br /> 100-square-foot freestanding sign adjacent to Indiana Ave- <br /> nue approximately 420 feet easterly of the Madison Street/ <br /> Indiana Avenue intersection (Variance A); one 200-square- <br /> foot building identification sign on the westerly building <br /> elevation facing Madison Street (part of Variance B); and <br /> one 200-square-foot building identification sign on the <br /> northerly building elevation facing Indiana Avenue (Vari- <br /> ance C).
