CITY OF RIVE. ~IDE Minutes of Regular Meeting of the City Council Date of Meeting: May 14, 1996 Time of Meeting: 9 A.M. Place of Meeting: Council Chamber, City Hall Roll Call: Mayor Loveridge called the meeting to order at 9:10 a.m. fol- lowing completion of the Adjourned Regular Meeting. The Invocation was given by the City Manager. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag. MINUTES The Minutes of the Meeting of May 7, 1996, were approved as presented. Councilmember Defenbaugh abstained from voting on the approval of the Minutes as she was out of town on City business on May 7. PRESENTATIONS Mayor Loveridge and Councilmember Beaty presented a Proclama- tion to Diane Nussbaum, Principal of University Heights Middle School, honoring staff and students for receiving the title of 1994-96 National Blue Ribbon School for excellence in teaching and instruction, student achievement, leadership and parental involvement. Mayor Loveridge, Councilmember Pearson, Police Chief Fortier and Police Communications Manager Cherie Curzon presented Cer- tificates of Appreciation to Michele Abshire, John Wright, Sonja Pool, Donna Stump and Karen McCoy, Public Safety Dis- patchers, for their recent recognition by the California Pub- lic Safety Radio Association. CELEBP~ATING RIVERSIDE Councilmember Pearson, Ward 7, recognized (1) Tom Patterson for his many years of outstanding community service, with com- ments and presentations also made by Historic Resources staff, Sue Miller of Congressman Ken Calvert's office, Raphael de la Cruz from County Supervisor John Tavaglione's office and oth- ers; and (2) the La Sierra Park Advisory Team, a volunteer group, for their contribution of a balance beam for the gym- nastics program. CONSENT CALENDAR The following items, presented to the City Council on the Con- sent Calendar for consideration, were approved by one motion affirming the actions appropriate to each item; with Council- member Defenbaugh requesting her vote be shown as "No" on the adoption of Ordinance No. 6286, Prezoning for Annexation No. 78.
