The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the Flag. MINUTES The Minutes of the Meeting of December 16, 1997, were approved as presented. Motion X Second X All Ayes PRESENTATIONS Mayor Loveridge called on Rick McGrath, Acting Public Works Director, who assisted in presenting the 1997 Excellence in Transportation Award and Certificate from Caltrans to Public Works Department staff Phillip Hannawi, Dan Simmons and Ray Garcia, for their work on the University Avenue Streetscape Improve-ments. Mayor Loveridge called on representatives from the Automobile Club of Southern California and California Highway Patrol for the annual presentation of the California Highway Patrol 10851 Awards. Police Chief Gerald L. Carroll assisted in presenting the awards to 15 Riverside Police Officers. CONSENT CALENDAR The following items, presented to the City Council on the Consent Calendar for Motion X consideration, were approved by one motion affirming the actions appropriate to each Second X item. All Ayes BOARD OF ADMINISTRATIVE APPEALS AND ZONING ADJUSTMENT VARIANCE CASE VR-037-978 - 2975 VAN BUREN The City Council upheld the Board of Administrative Appeals and Zoning Adjust- menifs action in denying the proposal of Land Entitlement and Development Services, Inc., for property at 2975 Van Buren Boulevard, situated on the northerly comer of Van Buren Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue in Zone C-2. Variance requested: To allow a Bank of America wall identification sign on a Lucky grocery store building frontage where two signs exist. VARIANCE CASE VR-038-978 - 10471 MAGNOLIA The City Council upheld the Board of Administrative Appeals and Zoning Adjust- menifs action in denying the proposal of Land Entitlement and Development Services, Inc., for property at 10471 Magnolia Avenue, situated on the north-westerly comer of Magnolia Avenue and Tyler Street in Zone C-2. Variance requested: To allow a Bank of America wall identification sign on a Lucky grocery store building frontage where six signs are allowed by a previous variance.
