wni =R tvtRGv ii <br />Jwl -- RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />WON Board Memorandum <br />PUBLIC UTILITIES <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: JANUARY 22, 2016 <br />ITEM NO: 15 <br />File ID — 16 -0204 — D <br />SUBJECT: DEVELOMENT OF BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES' ANNUAL ACTIVITY REPORT TO <br />CITY COUNCIL ON FEBRUARY 23, 2016 <br />ISSUES: <br />The item for Board of Public Utilities consideration is discussion of talking points for development of a <br />City Council report summarizing the Board's activities, plans and Board /staff /Council interactions for <br />2015 and 2016. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />That the Board of Public Utilities discuss and provide feedback for development of the annual activities <br />report for presentation to the City Council by Board Chair Susan Cash. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The City Clerk, on behalf of the Mayor and City Council, has requested a report from the Board of Public <br />Utilities, scheduled for Tuesday February 23, 2016 at 6:00 pm. Fifteen minutes has been set aside for <br />the report and subsequent discussion with the City Council. The City Council has requested the report <br />be approximately five minutes in length and address the following material: <br />1. Significant subject matter which occupied the Board of Public Utilities attention during the past <br />year; <br />2. The principal tasks which lie ahead over the next year; and <br />3. Ways in which the City Council and staff might facilitate the work of the Board of Public Utilities. <br />Staff, in consultation with Board Chair Cash has compiled the following talking points as a prompt to the <br />Board conversation. <br />1. 2015 - Assessment and Planning <br />Significant subject matter which occupied the Board during 2015 (not in priority order) includes: <br />• Strategic Planning, "Utility 2.0'; February through August, including 2 joint meetings with the City <br />Council <br />• Computer Information System (CIS) implementation, corrections, and solutions <br />• Water Drought Policy and RPU recommendation for and response to State Water Resources <br />Control Board Mandatory Emergency Response Regulations <br />• Plaza Substation construction and upgrade of surrounding electrical systems <br />• San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Decommissioning <br />• Mission Square Office Complex purchase recommendation <br />• Audits: Northside property transactions, RPU performance and financial audits ( "deep dive ") <br />
