I r I F S BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: September 17, 2016 ITEM NO: 4 SUBJECT: OVERHEAD AND UNDERGROUND STRUCTURE INSTALLATION FOR 5 POINT STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT - WORK ORDER NOS. 070015-04 AND 100024-03 ISSUE: Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order Nos. 070015-04 and 100024-03 (Street Lights). RECOMMENDATIONS: That the Board of Public Utilities: 1. Approve the estimated capital expenditure of $330,000 for the La Sierra 5 Point Street Improvement Project to install overhead and underground structures on La Sierra Avenue at the 5-point intersection of Pierce Street, Hole Avenue and Bushnell Avenue; and 2. Approve the estimated capital expenditure of $85,000 for the installation of 12 street lights along La Sierra Avenue, Pierce Street, Bushnell and Hole Avenues. BACKGROUND: The Public Works Department is currently in the process of making street improvements along La Sierra Avenue at the 5 Points Intersection. This road widening project will require the relocation of various underground and overhead utilities and installation of new street lighting as Riverside Public Utilities' (RPU) overhead electrical facilities are in conflict with this project. Specifically, this project involves the removal and relocation of power poles and overhead cable and installation of conduits, structures and the placement of underground cable in new structures. This project consists of trenching approximately 1215 feet along Pierce Street and La Sierra Avenue at the 5-point intersection. The Public Works Department will recommend award of the contract at the September 21 City Council meeting to the lowest responsive bidder. All infrastructure and street light work will be performed by the Public Works' contractor. Electrical work will be performed by RPU forces or by RPU's electrical contractors through the normal competitive bidding process.
