IA <br /> 311w, <br /> RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> fiad Board Memorandum <br /> P U B L I C U T I L i T l F 5 <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: September 17, 2010 <br /> ITEM NO: 3 <br /> SUBJECT: EXTEND FIBER OPTIC CABLE NETWORK TO MARCY LIBRARY <br /> WORK ORDER NO. 1026418 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order No. 1026418. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of$138,058 to extend fiber optic <br /> cable to Marcy Library. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> On June 1, 2010, the City Council approved the contract award for the construction of the Marcy <br /> Library/Parks, Recreation and Community Services Depa rtment Administration Offices(Bid No.6839),which <br /> includes$138,058 intended to cover the fiber optic cable network extension to the Marcy Library and offices. <br /> The fiber will facilitate connections to the Information Technology (IT) Department's central server located <br /> inside City Hall. This joint facility located at 6927 Magnolia Avenue will receive fiber optic based data <br /> services. <br /> Riverside Public Utilities(RPU)will extend and maintain additional fiber optic cable approximately 1.34 miles <br /> from the Plaza Substation. An additional two strands of fiber optic cable will be leased between Marcy Library <br /> and City Hall (a distance of about five miles). Interface with the IT network will be through the Standard <br /> Connector (SC) ports of RPU's fiber optic patch panel at Marcy Library. <br /> Engineering will be performed by RPU staff and construction will be performed by either utility staff or by <br /> contractors using the Utility Contractor's Panel. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> There is no fiscal impact to RPU. The total project cost is estimated at $138,058. Sufficient funds are <br /> available in the Magnolia Center Redevelopment Project Area, Marcy Library Expansion Account No. <br /> 9824820-440446 for the fiber extension. RPU will receive annual revenue of$2,664 for the service being <br /> provided. <br /> Prepared by: Stephen H.
