RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: July 16, 2010 <br /> ITEM NO: 6 <br /> SUBJECT: EXTEND FIBER OPTIC CABLE NETWORK TO HUNTER HOBBY PARK <br /> WORK ORDER NO. 1026412 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> Board of Public Utilities approval is requested for Work Order No. 1426412. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $66,000 to extend fiber <br /> optic cable to Hunter Hobby Park. <br /> BACKGROUND. <br /> On May 25, 2010, the City Council approved a construction contract award for the Hunter Hobby Park <br /> improvements, Bid No. 6838, which includes $66,000 intended to cover the fiber optic cable network <br /> extension to Hunter Hobby Paris. The fiber will facilitate security camera connections to the Information <br /> Technology (IT) Departments' central server located inside City Hall. Hunter Hobby Park is located at <br /> 1401 Iowa Avenue and is one of the parks to receive fiber optic based data services. <br /> Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) will extend and maintain additional fiber optic cable approximately 0.64 <br /> miles from the existing cross-connect cabinet at the intersection of Marlborough and Rustin Avenues. <br /> Two strands of fiber optic cable with an estimated distance of 4.60 miles per fiber will be leased between <br /> Hunter Hobby Park and City Hall. Interface with the IT network will be through RPU's fiber optic patch <br /> panel at Hunter Hobby Park. <br /> Engineering will be performed by staff and construction will be performed by either Utility staff or by <br /> contractors using the Utility contractor's panel. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The total project cost is estimated at $66,000. The City of Riverside will provide funding out of the <br /> Capital Outlay Project Fund, Account No. 9832900-440446 for the fiber extension. RPU will receive <br /> annual revenue of$2,592 for the service being provided. <br /> Prepared by: Stephen H.
