RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES
M3Board Memorandum
P U B L I C U T I L I T I E S
BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: May 21, 2010
ITEM NO: 4
SUBJECT: OVERHEAD AND UNDERGROUND STRUCTURE INSTALLATION FOR CIRCUIT
1533 FEEDER LOAD RELIEF PROJECT
WORK ORDER NO. 1010201
ISSUE:
Board approval is requested for Work Order No. 1010201.
RECOMMENDATION:
That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $258,317.82 to install
overhead and underground structures along Overlook Parkway and over the Arroyo between Sandtrack
Road and Magnon Court.
BACKGROUND:
Limitation on available ties and capacity, coupled with the extreme distances from Freeman and
Orangecrest Substations servicing this area, requires a new feeder from the Orangecrest Substation.
The proposed project involves the construction of a new 12 kilovolt (kV) electric distribution circuit to
support existing and future electric load requirements in the Canyon Crest and Alessandro Heights
neighborhoods off Overlook Parkway. A route has been identified through system studies performed by
Riverside Public Utilities (RPU). The alignment for the proposed 12 kV circuit generally runs northerly to
southerly along Trautwein Road and Alessandro Boulevard from John F. Kennedy Boulevard to Overlook
Parkway. The alignment then runs generally easterly to westerly on Overlook Parkway from Alessandro
Boulevard to Crystal View Terrace. This project consists of an environmental initial study, trenching
approximately 331 feet along Overlook Parkway, installation of conduits, structures, the placement of
underground cable in existing structures and overhead facilities spanning the arroyo at two locations.
The electrical engineering was performed by RPU. All civil work including trenching, conduits, vaults and
other infrastructure work will be performed by contractor forces through the competitive bid process.
Electrical work will be performed by RPU field forces.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The capital expenditure for the project is estimated to be $258,317.82, this includes all construction,
environmental study, contingencies, construction management, inspection and design, as summarized in
the following table:
% Of
Total
Construction-Electric Conduit & Structures $145,817.41 56.45%
Construction-RPU Electrical Work $53,618.67 20.76%
Environmental Study $34,300.00 13.27%
Contingency (10%) $14,581.74 05.65%
Design, Construction Management, Ins ection $10,000.00 03.87%
Subtotal: $258,317.82 100 %
Funds are budgeted and available for this project in the Major Feeders Account No. 6130000-470633.
