The retail load for March 2010
was 6.3% lower than the retail energy load in March 2009 (162,072 MWh). The actual peak system demand was 312
MW, compared to actual peak system demand of 290 MW last year. Sales to wholesale parties, losses and energy
returns represented 15.2% of the total energy requirement as compared to 26.6% for last year. Sales to the ISO
accounted for 920 MWh. Energy returns were 17,555 MWh and 4,586 MWh were attributed to losses (3.98%). Green
power supplied approximately 10.9% of our retail energy requirements.
The City's generation resources were available during the month as follows:
UNIT OPERATION
IPP: IPP units 1 and 2 operated at 94% capacity factor for the month.
PVNGS: Palo Verde units 1, 2 and 3 operated at 85% capacity factor for the month.
SONGS: SONGS unit 3 operated at 55% capacity factor for the month.
Unit 2 is on delayed outage for generator replacement through 4/11/2010 (ETR was 1/27/2010).
Hoover: Hoover operated at 73% availability for the month due to low water elevation in Lake Mead and various
scheduled unit maintenances.
Springs: Springs units 1, 2, 3 and 4 availability was 87% for the month.
RERC: RERC Unit 1 availability was 71% for the month.
RERC Unit 2 availability was 4% for the month due to turbine overhaul through 5/14/2010.
Salton Sea: The Salton Sea units operated at 38% capacity factor for the month.
TRANSMISSION:
Pacific DC: The South to North line is de-rated due to repairs to damage caused by the Station Fire through
05/30/2010. The North to South line is fully operational.
Attached are the charts of daily peaks and the graphical comparison of demand and energy supplied from each resource
for the months of March 2009 and March 2010.
AA
Attachments
cc: Bradley J.
