The Utility has a set of long-
term goals developed in 2008 that were created for implementation over a ten-year time horizon. In addition,
the Utility develops three-year goals in order to meet the longer term goals. Board members, executive and
senior management participated in a strategic planning retreat on April 2, 2010. At that time, the five three-
year goals were reviewed and updated. Follow-up sessions are held every six months to ensure the goals
are still appropriate and that objectives are set so staff can meet these goals.
In order to monitor the Public Utilities' efforts towards meeting these goals, a Six-Month Strategic Objectives
document is created as a detailed work plan to track efforts and accomplishments over the coming months to
meet these goals. A summary of the efforts to meet the Six-Month Strategic Objectives is provided to the
Board on a monthly basis.
The next retreat is scheduled for Wednesday, October 27, 2010 and Board of Public Utility members are
encouraged to attend.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Fiscal impacts of efforts to meet the strategic plan are included in individual Board action items as they are
brought forward for approval.
Approved by: David H.
