CITY OF RIVERSIDE <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Minutes of: Special Strategic Planning Workshop Meeting of the Board of Public <br /> Utilities <br /> Date of Meeting: July 13, 2015 <br /> Time of Meeting: 8:00 am <br /> Place of Meeting: Mayor's Ceremonial Room <br /> 7th Floor City Hall <br /> 3900 Main Street <br /> Riverside, California <br /> PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG WAS GIVEN <br /> Roll Call <br /> Present: Susan Cash Dave Austin <br /> Nick Ferguson Jennifer O'Farrell <br /> Justin Scott-Coe <br /> Absent: Darrell Ament (absence due to illness) <br /> Ron Cole (absence due to vacation) <br /> Andrew Walcker (absence due to vacation) <br /> CITIZENS PARTICIPATION <br /> 1 Public Comment Period: NONE <br /> WORKSHOP <br /> 2 BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES STRATEGIC PLANNING WORKSHOP — UTILITY <br /> 2.0; REVIEW INITIAL PRESENTATIONS ON ELECTRIC INFRASTRUCTURE, <br /> WATER INFRASTRUCTURE AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT ROADMAPS <br /> THAT OUTLINE CURRENT AND FUTURE ISSUES THAT RIVERSIDE PUBLIC <br /> UTILITIES WILL FACE AS IT PREPARES FOR AND RESPONDS TO THE <br /> TRANSFORMATIONAL CHANGE AFFECTING THE UTILITY INDUSTRY <br /> The Board of Public Utilities conducted a workshop to discuss the Utility's Electric <br /> Infrastructure, Water Infrastructure and Workforce Development Roadmaps and obtain <br /> feedback from the Board Members. <br /> Electric Infrastructure Roadmap Presentation/Board Comments: <br /> Assistant General Manager Pat Hohl provided a presentation outlining the current state <br /> of our electric infrastructure. He explained the correlation between population growth <br /> in Riverside and infrastructure age. The infrastructure is now aging with many <br /> overhead and underground cables, poles and substation transformers approaching or <br /> over 50 years old. He stated that our investment rate will need to increase in order for <br /> us to stay ahead of the needed replacement rate of critical infrastructure, with <br /> emphasis on substation transformers and utility poles. He provided investment options <br /> in broad ranges to illustrate the costs of performing varying degrees of infrastructure <br /> improvement.
