W A T E R E N E3W& RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES Board Memorandum P U B L I C U T I L I T I E S BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: March 5, 2010 ITEM NO: 9 SUBJECT: VAN BUREN AVENUE STREET WIDENING PROJECT AT THE 91 FREEWAY OVERPASS —WORK ORDER NO. 080015-06 ISSUE: Board approval is requested for Work Order No. 080015-06. RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $586,220 (the full amount will be reimbursed to Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) by the Public Works Department) to relocate existing overhead facilities over the 91 Freeway along Van Buren Avenue from Andrew Street to Indiana Avenue. BACKGROUND: The City of Riverside Public Works (PW) Department has recently awarded a contract to Skanska USA Civil Inc. the lowest bidder for this overpass project. The electric portion of the project will include the installation of approximately 5,117 feet of 12 kV primary cable and 11,523 feet of conduit. All of the distribution system on the west side of Van Buren Avenue will have to be converted from overhead to underground and relocated to the east side of the street. All infrastructure and street light work will be performed by the City of Riverside PW contractor. Electrical work will be performed by contractors and City forces.
