W A T E R I E N E R 5 Y , L I F E <br /> RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> P U B L I C U T I L I T I E S <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: February 19, 2010 <br /> ITEM NO: 5 <br /> SUBJECT: RIVERSIDE RENAISSANCE OVERHEAD TO UNDERGROUND CONVERSION OF <br /> FIBER OPTIC CABLE FOR PUBLIC WORKS STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT ON <br /> VAN BUREN BOULEVARD FROM JACKSON STREET TO THE SANTA ANA RIVER <br /> WORK ORDER NO. 1018241 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> Board approval is requested for Work Order No. 1018241. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the estimated capital expenditure of $76,600 to convert the <br /> overhead fiber optic network to underground on Van Buren Boulevard from Jackson Street to the Santa Ana <br /> River. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The Board approved the conversion of overhead electrical facilities to underground on May 1, 2009. The <br /> project is the third and final phase of relocating electric and fiber optic cable facilities for the Renaissance <br /> Street Improvement Project and Underground District along Van Buren Boulevard. This phase consists of <br /> installing underground communication infrastructure from Jackson Street to the Santa Ana River; installing <br /> approximately 7,600 feet of fiber optic underground cables and removing existing aerial fiber optic cable <br /> facilities along the full length of the project area. <br /> The Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) Energy Delivery Engineering staff completed the design work. All civil <br /> work including trenching, conduits, vaults and manholes and other infrastructure work will be performed by <br /> the Public Works contractor through the competitive bid process. Fiber optic cable undergrounding <br /> conversion work shall be done along with authorized electrical work under Work Order Nos. 080015-02 and <br /> 070021-10. <br /> The project work will be performed by contractors using the Utility Contractor's Panel and City forces where <br /> appropriate. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The total estimated cost for fiber optic cable underground conversion is $76,600. Funds are budgeted and <br /> available for this project in the Communication Account No. 6130000-470664. <br /> Prepared by: Stephen H.
