The retail load
for December 2009 was 7.7% lower than the retail energy load in December 2008. The actual peak system
demand was 296 MW, compared to actual peak system demand of 317 MW last year. Sales to wholesale
parties, losses and energy returns represented 37.2% of the total energy requirement as compared to 27% for
last year. Sales to wholesale parties accounted for 32,080 MWh, which included 24,557 MWh in sales to the
ISO. Energy returns were 20,008 MWh and 6,266 MWh were attributed to losses 3.92%. Green power
supplied approximately 22.4% of our retail energy requirements.
The City's generation resources were available during the month as follows:
UNIT OPERATION
IPP: IPP units 1 and 2 operated at 99% capacity factor for the month.
PVNGS: Palo Verde units 1, 2 and 3 operated at 83% capacity factor for the month.
SONGS: SONGS unit 3 operated at 100% capacity factor for the month. Unit 2 is on scheduled outage
for generator replacement through 1/27/10.
Deseret: The Bonanza unit operated at 89% capacity factor for the month due to unavailable
transmission capacity and pulverizer maintenance.
Hunter unit 2 operated at 88% capacity factor for the month due to opacity, transmission
constraints, tube leaks and pulverizer maintenance.
Hoover: Hoover operated at 75% availability for the month due to low water elevation in Lake Mead and
various scheduled unit maintenances.
Springs: Springs units 1, 2, 3 and 4 availability was 98% for the month.
RERC: RERC Units 1 and 2 availability was 92% for the month.
Salton Sea: The Salton Sea units operated at 90% capacity factor for the month.
TRANSMISSION:
Pacific DC: The line was de-rated due to repairs to damage caused by the Station Fire through February
28, 2010.
Attached are the charts of daily peaks and the graphical comparison of demand and energy supplied from
each resource for the months of December 2008 and December 2009.
AA
Attachments
cc: Bradley J.
