W A T E R I E N E R 5 Y , L I F E <br /> RIVERSIDE PUBLIC UTILITIES <br /> Board Memorandum <br /> P U B L I C U T I L I T I E S <br /> BOARD OF PUBLIC UTILITIES DATE: February 5, 2010 <br /> ITEM NO: 6 <br /> SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION OF THE 12th STREET WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT PROJECT <br /> PHASE I —WORK ORDER NO. 1013088 <br /> ISSUE: <br /> Consideration of the capital expenditure in the amount of$120,000 to construct the 12th Street Water Main <br /> Replacement Project Phase I. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br /> That the Board of Public Utilities approve the capital expenditure in the amount of$120,000 for Work Order <br /> No. 1013088, which includes design and construction costs by Water Field Forces for the 12th Street Water <br /> Main Replacement Project Phase I. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The construction of the 12th Street Water Main Replacement Project is part of the on-going water main <br /> replacement program. However, the construction schedule by the Public Works Department for their fiscal <br /> year 2008-2009 Street Rehabilitation concerning the intersection of 10th Street and Locust Street intersection <br /> has been accelerated. This is due to compliance with the American with Disability Act (ADA) wheelchair <br /> ramp requirements within the City limits. <br /> Therefore, in order to accommodate the Public Works construction schedule, staff has determined to phase <br /> the 12th Street Water Main Replacement Project. Phase I will include the intersection of 10th Street and <br /> Locust Street and Phase 11 will makeup the remaining streets to be constructed at a later date (please see <br /> attached project map). <br /> City Water Field forces will be performing the construction of both Phases. Phase I will include construction <br /> of 336 linear feet of 12-inch ductile iron pipe,three service connections and one fire hydrant. Staff will return <br /> to the Board at a later date to authorize the expenditure for the remaining work. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT: <br /> The capital expenditure of Phase I for Work Order 1013088 is estimated to be $120,000 which includes <br /> costs for design and construction necessary to perform the work, as summarized below: <br /> Item Cost <br /> Design $1,200 <br /> Construction $111,800 <br /> Base Paving $7,000 <br /> Work Order Total (Phase 1) $120,000 <br />
